Bassett/Harrell
Physical Science and Georgia Studies
August-September 2009
Physical Science: The class has received notes and activities on the following :
Lab Safety: Safety symbols and safety guidelines for students.
Energy and Energy Resources:
Explain the relationship between energy and work, compare kinetic and potential energy, describe the different forms of energy, ddescribe an energy conversion, give examples of energy conversions for the different forms of energy, explain how energy conversions make energy useful, explain the role of machines in energy conversions, explain how energy is conserved within a closed system, explain the law of conservation of energy, give examples of how thermal energy is always a result of energy conversion, and explain why perpetual motion is important, name several energy resources, explain how the sun is the source of most energy on Earth, and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using various energy resources.
Performance Task Menu : Let's Get Moving, Kinetic and Potential Energy Poster, Comparing and Contrasting Kinetic and Potential Energy/Paragraph- The students selected one of these activities to show some of the things learned in this unit of work.
Matter in Motion:
Describe the motion of an object by the position of the object in relation to a reference point, identify the two factors that determine speed, explain the difference between speed and velocity, analyze the relationship between velocity and acceleration.
Activity: Physics of Football-Speed and velocity, Acceleration and Force (Technology)
Georgia Studies: The class has received notes and activities on the following:
Georgia's Physical Regions
The Early Inhabitants of Georgia
Georgia's Colonial Period
Georgia Becomes a Royal Colony
The Revolutionary War Period
Students activities include: map skills, graphic organizers, Georgia Stories (Video and questions), note taking skills (power notes), cooperative learning activities, presentations, open book assessments, and quizzes.
