Unit 10b- Georgia in a Divided Nation Part II

SS8H6

The student will analyze the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on Georgia.

Part II of Unit 10 test questions consists of 44 items. The students were given the 44 items as study questions to complete as they read each night. Students will complete graphic organizers,  guided questions,  match up activities, Fact Scramble, map skills and view videos to help them to analyze and understand  the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on Georgia.  Students will also complete writing activities to help to explain the facts and to develop writing skills.

SS8H7

The student will evaluate key political, social, and economic changes that occurred in Georgia between 1877 and 1918.

The Progressive Era

The progressive era was all about change and opportunities. This road to change was not equally smooth for all groups. With the help of many national and state spokesmen, changes began.

It was also said that one favorite pastime of Georgians was talking Georgia politics. If that is true, this period in our state's history was a bonanza for those sitting around a pot-bellied stove at the general store, hanging out at the barber shop, or in the church sewing circle.

Essential Questions:

What changes were goals of the progressive movement?

What were the goals of the populists in Georgia?

In what ways did Georgians fight for civil rights during the progressive era?

How did Georgia businesses grow during the progressive era?

The students will complete an activity called, Who said it in the fight for equality to test their knowledge of people like ,W. E.B DuBois, John Hope, Homer Plessy, and Booker T. Washington.
