For the remainder of the year, my goal is to have our classes participate in the National Math Trail.
I have the last bulletin board of the year. We will be doing "Renaissance Math." Please pay for the field trip by this Friday, so you can join in the fun!!!
XLT will be working on order of operations and one-step equations.
Approved sites for this week are as follows:
Symmetry Projects: Many symmetry projects were never turned in. These projects count as a test grade. Students will be allowed to complete the "Create Your Own Logo" or "Symmetry Task" from the State Performance Tasks (p. 8-10) as a substitute. Please note that we are no longer looking for poster size projects.
Unit 4 Post Test Revision will be on Monday!!
Math Homework:
Tues - 7-5 Practice A
Wed - CRCT Countdown Week 6
Thurs - 7-6 Practice A
My daughter's school had their science fair last week. Adriane is in kindergarten, so the science fair is optional. She seemed interested in it, so we did a short project. It wasn't too painful until I had to get her to make the poster. Reading and writing are her weaknesses, so it was pretty painful. Her teacher says she has about one student do one a year. I was sure that I wouldn't get so ambitious again and we would wait until such activities are required.
Well, she got 1st place for K-2. How can I not do it again next year?
We are continuing with Unit 6: Scale Factor in class this week. The parent letter is available here:Download Math6Unit6parentletter.doc
Last week we discussed the customary and metric units of measurement. We also set up proportions to convert between units of measurement. We will be in the computer lab again this Wednesday.
For Unit 5, we will have a homework project rather than a unit test. The necessary information is available below:

Adrian Bruce Webquest Line Symmetry Math is Fun - Rotational Symmetry BBC Bitesize - SymmetryI'm now a stay at home mom for two weeks. I'm determined to have Adriane practice her violin every day while we are off. Gabe says he is interested in playing again, but who knows how long that will last. Adriane's 1/32 violin is starting to seem small for her, so we might order her a pink 1/16 violin from ebay (then she wants a rub on transfer of hello kitty).
Choi Kwang Do is closed until the new year. The demo team pictures are finally posted on their website. Adriane is the tiny blond one.
I've finally signed the kids up for swimming lessons again. We missed out on the cheap but good ones at the West Cobb pool twice. So we are going to try out the Y for the first time. This time I was smart enough to register for Saturday classes.
I finally started painting the mural in the playroom and spent x-mas morning putting together playmobil toys. Talk about German engineering...
We now have access to Skills Tutor!!! This is an online tutorial program that allows students to practice and master necessary skills. Students receive instant feedback as to whether they need more help.

This site looks great and I've tried it with my daughter in kindergarten. The one sixth grade student who tried it says she likes it much better than Accelerated Math. No paper, pencil, or scantron required!
